What is Ratios?
A ratio shows the relative sizes of two or more values. Ratios can be shown in different ways:
- Using the ":" to separate the values: 3:4
- Using the word "to": 3 to 4
- As a fraction: 3/4
How to Simplify Ratios
To simplify a ratio, divide both numbers by their greatest common divisor (GCD).
Example: Simplify the ratio 12:16
Step 1: Find the GCD of 12 and 16 (which is 4)
Step 2: Divide both numbers by the GCD: 12÷4 = 3, 16÷4 = 4
Step 3: The simplified ratio is 3:4
