About UPS Battery Backup
An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) provides emergency power when your main power source fails. The battery backup runtime determines how long your connected equipment will continue to operate during a power outage.
Understanding your UPS runtime is crucial for:
- Properly shutting down computers and servers
- Maintaining network connectivity during short outages
- Keeping critical systems running until power is restored
- Preventing data loss and hardware damage
How the Calculator Works
Our UPS runtime calculator uses the following formula to estimate your backup time:
Runtime (minutes) = (Battery Voltage × Battery Capacity × Efficiency) ÷ (Load Power) × 60
Where:
- Battery Voltage is in volts (V)
- Battery Capacity is in amp-hours (Ah)
- Efficiency is the UPS efficiency percentage (as a decimal)
- Load Power is calculated from (UPS Capacity × Load Percentage ÷ 100)
This calculation provides an estimate of your UPS runtime. Actual results may vary based on battery age, temperature, and specific equipment connected.
